JOIN CLUB SWIMMING

How can I become a member of the Penn State Club Swimming Team?

You must be a Penn State University Park student to join.  Only Penn State University Park students may travel, compete, and hold leadership positions within our organization.

The best way to stay updated about our club is to join our e-mail LISTSERV.  You can subscribe to our LISTSERV any time by sending a blank email (subject and body) to: L-CLUBSWIMMING-SUBSCRIBE-REQUEST@lists.psu.edu.  Before you are able to practice with us you must sign a completed participation agreement.

You can also find more information on our PSU OrgCentral page here.

*****We are NOT a USA or YMCA swim club. ******

For any questions regarding membership or club information please contact club President Sarah Devlin at sld5827@psu.edu

Are there any forms to fill out?
How much are dues?

Before you can practice with us, you must sign a completed participation agreement on IMLeagues. An email with more information about the agreement will be sent out at the beginning of each semester.

Dues are collected at the beginning of the semester, and are $100 for the year or $60 per semester.  Dues can be paid in cash or a check payable to "Penn State Club Swimming."  All dues can be turned in to one of the officers at practice.

How competitive is club swimming?

Our club is welcome to all swimmers!  We have members in our club ranging from recreational swimmers to previous varsity swimmers. Practices will be written by our coaches to accommodate all skill and fitness levels.

Are there tryouts?

We may hold informal tryouts (no cuts) at practice early in the semester. Coaches evaluate swimmers based on legality in all 4 strokes, diving, flip turns, and racing ability. Those wishing to learn how to swim are encouraged to join the Adult Group Lessons offered by the McCoy Natatorium. See here for information on adult lessons.
You must be a Penn State University Park student, faculty, or staff member to join.  Only Penn State University Park students may travel, compete, and hold leadership positions within our organization.

Where and how often do we practice?

We practice five times a week, but practice is encouraged, not required.  All practices take place in the McCoy Natatorium.

Do we go to meets?

Yes!  We compete against other college club swim teams.  We usually go to a few meets throughout the season, and typically host a home meet in the McCoy Natatorium as well.  Our season ends at a nationals meet hosted by College Club Swimming. To be eligible for meets, you must register for College Club Swimming every season, and instructions to do so will be sent in an email at the beginning of each semester. Only Penn State University Park students may travel and compete on behalf of Penn State Club Swim. For more information about meets, email our Meet Coordinators, Anders Sonsteby and Julia Li at ajs7400@psu.edu and jsl5612@psu.edu.

Do I have to sign up at a certain time?

No, it's never too late to join Club Swimming!  You can come out to practice and join us at any time, as long as you have completed the required forms and paid dues. If we are at capacity in the fall, we encourage interested members to try out in the spring. Make sure you are subscribed to the e-mail listserv and in the official Club Swim Group Chat to receive updates about our club.

Are there any social activities?

Absolutely!  We have team dinners, team hikes, movie nights, formals, an end of year banquet, travel for THON fundraising, and more!
